ExxonMobil PNG get on board as co-naming rights sponsors of national rugby league competition

The PNGNRLC recently announced ExxonMobil PNG (EMPNG) as the new co-naming rights sponsors of the country’s semi-professional rugby league competition.

The competition which has been known as the Digicel Cup for over a decade will now be known as the Digicel ExxonMobil Cup following the announcement yesterday at the Santos National Football Stadium Brian Bell Club Lounge.

The new co-sponsors ExxonMobil PNG will hold claim as co-naming rights sponsors for the next three years at a cost of K6 million with K2 million sponsorship per year for the next three years.

Speaking at the announcement, PNGNRLC Chairman Mr Adrian Chow thanked Digicel PNG for their commitment towards supporting the Digicel Cup for the past 12 years and helping to grow and develop the competition to what it is today.

‘Our partnership with Digicel PNG has been a major factor in the growth and development of our competition.”

“Playing and coaching standards have lifted, competition management has become more professional and new franchises have come on board in recent years.”

Mr Chow further acknowledged Digicel PNG for continuing the sponsorship with ExxonMobil now joining the family as co-naming rights sponsors of the competition.

“I am delighted to announce that ExxonMobil PNG will be coming on board as co-naming rights sponsor of our national rugby league competition.”

“This is a unique arrangement with two leading companies joining as co-naming rights sponsors.”

“This new sponsorship lays a strong foundation to see our national competition played at higher levels,” Mr Chow said.

The Digicel Cup will now be rebranded as the Digicel ExxonMobil Cup with a new logo and a new perpetual trophy.

EMPNG Chairman & Managing Director Mr Peter Larden who was present at the announcement expressed his thanks to the PNGRFL and current naming rights sponsor Digicel PNG for the opportunity to get on board as co-naming rights sponsors of the largest rugby league competition in the country.

The 2023 Digicel ExxonMobil Cup season is expected to kick off in April soon after the Easter weekend.
